Faculty Introduction
My
name is Jaclyn Strauss and I will be your tour guide for this wonderful
Accounting adventure. It is my goal to help you to master the principles of accounting
covered in class. Mastering these concepts is crucial to your continued study
of accounting. These concepts will also be of value to you both in your
professional and personal life. Now a little bit about me...
First I will start with my educational background...
I graduated from the University of Florida (Go Gators!) with my Bachelors and
Masters in Accounting. I did a 3/2 accelerated program which enabled me to
receive both degrees on the same day. I completed my studies in May of 2002. I
then went on to study and pass the C.P.A. Exam. I am now a Certified Public
Accountant in the State of Florida.
Now for my work experience...
I started my career with Deloitte in the International Tax Department. I
initially signed with Arthur Andersen, however since everything with Enron went
down the year of my graduation the firm fell as well. Needless to say it did
not work out with Andersen and that is how I ended up at Deloitte. I spent two
years with Deloitte in Atlanta and started to build my "real world"
working experience. Boy was it an adjustment from college! I loved everyone
that I worked with and loved the idea of being a young professional. However, I
did not love the work I was doing everyday. To me I felt that I had to LOVE
doing what I did everyday. I have now been teaching at the college level in the
area of Accounting for 10 years. I love
what I do and am so pleased to be your instructor.
Lastly, my personal life...
I currently live in Ft. Lauderdale. I grew up here and moved back home from
Atlanta ten years ago. My husband is an Attorney here in Ft. Lauderdale. Scott
and I have a dog named Sammy which was a gift to us for our bridal shower. I
had my first child on August 29, 2011 and his name is Jordan Aaron. He is a
doll and brings pure happiness to my life. My hobbies include pilates, working
out and to be honest TEACHING!
My goal is for all of us to be successful in this course. In my opinion, I work
for all of you. My job is to help you master the material and meet all of your
expectations at the same time. I am here to help each of you in any way that I
can. I look forward to learning more
about each of you and your professional goals and working with you this term.
Let's have fun together!
